NSUI’s Rocky Tusheed won the presidential post by a margin of 1,590 votes defeating ABVP’s Rajat Choudhary. Tusheed’s candidature remained under a cloud until last Wednesday after his name was omitted from the final list issued by the University’s Election Commission citing some disciplinary action against him.

The NSUI, however, claimed that the results of Joint Secretary post was “unconstitutional” and claimed that their candidate Avinash Yadav had actually won the post. Scores of NSUI supporters staged a protest outside the University’s election commissioner’s office demanding recounting of votes for the post.

“We have appealed to the University’s grievance committee to look into the result of Joint Secretary post. It they won’t take action we’ll take the legal action,” said Akshay Lakra, NSUI state president, adding that the student group has reclaimed Delhi University.

Tusheed, who is pursuing MA in Buddhist studies, moved the Delhi High Court challenging the decision following which the court had granted him an interim relief on September 8. It, however, ordered the University not to declare the results until the case is resolved.

Rocky Tusheed, 23, pursuing MA in Buddhist Studies from Faculty of Arts. He is also former Executive Councillor in DUSU office. During his campaign, Rocky had promised  to free DU from the clutches of ABVP and work for the welfare of students.
