NSUI releases student-friendly election manifesto 'Take back DU'

In the run up to the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections, the Congress-affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Thursday released it's manifesto titled 'Take back DU' ensuring peace, security and freedom on campus.

"About Rs 41 lakh in the last two years was spent under miscellaneous category by the ABVP. We will allocate the budget after seeking students' opinions, will categorise the spending and put it online," NSUI national president Fairoz Khan said.

In the backdrop of violent clashes which broke out at Ramjas college earlier this year, the NSUI also promised that those involved in the incident will be held accountable. "We will track incidents of rioting and violent protests to ensure perpetrators are held to account," read the manifesto.

The student body also laid emphasis on north-east students and promised special nodal officers to ensure they don't get discriminated. It also promised revised diet rates for students representing the university in sports, and affordable accommodation to all.

"The ABVP promised affordable hostels for all even as their own student leaders are promoting private accommodations," NSUI DU President Akshay Lakra said.

The NSUI will compete neck-to-neck with the RSS-affiliate ABVP this year. Last year, the students' body asked for only one position in the students' union.

"Last year, we made a come back after three years but this time we will surely win the elections as students are now fed up of ABVP's hooliganism on campus," Lakra said. "We will release a women manifesto in the next few days," he added.
