On January 30, last year, Devansh Kakrora, a student of 1st C of Ryan International School in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj, died of drowning, after he fell into a water reservoir within the school's premise.
The recent gruesome case of the seven-year-old boy being murdered is not the first time that tragedies regarding students in Ryan International Schools have occurred. An instance happened in 2016 in Ryan International School in Vasant Kunj where a toddler had drowned at a branch of the same school in south Delhi leading to the arrest of five employees of that school.
On January 30, last year, Devansh Kakrora, a student of 1st C of Ryan International School in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj, died of drowning, after he fell into a water reservoir within the school's premise. Kakrora's family members had then said they were not allowed to see the tank and were not even told how the room where the reservoir is, was left open. The matter soon sparked controversy, forcing strict actions by the police.
Following an intense probe and rounds of questioning of the principal, administrative officer, child's class teacher, gardener and the custodian of the room in which the reservoir was built, all five were arrested for negligence.
In south Delhi's case, which was an "accident", a CBI team had also visited the spot to reconstruct the entire sequence of incidents that led to the arrest of five school employees. About a year and a half, in May this year, the Delhi Police filed a chargesheet in the case and held all five as accused.
Talking to DNA, a senior police officer who probed the matter, said, "On the basis of evidence and reports, while the administrator and the principal were accused of several lapses and negligence, the class teacher was held as co-accused. The gardener and the custodian of the room were also charged. All five were arrested a week after the incident. They are all out on bail and facing trial."
