North Corporation mayor Preety Agarwal, on Monday, directed officers to ensure the removal of encroachments over drains. This was part of a desilting drive ahead of the monsoon.

Inspecting areas of outer Delhi including Rohini, Bawana and Suraj Park Colony, among others, Agarwal told officers to get the drains cleaned up and regularly spray insecticide in the area to minimise the cases of dengue and malaria this season.

"The inner drains of some of the colonies here need to be de-silted on an immediate basis to prevent waterlogging. Besides, the adjoining roads need to be repaired as well," said Agarwal.

While inspecting Rohini Sector-15, H-Block, Agarwal told officials to remove the garbage dumped in vacant plots. She also directed officials concerned to install at least five benches at the MCD parks here.

During the inspection of Rohini's Sector-18, B-Block, Agarwal, who was accompanied by commissioner P K Gupta, directed the officials to reconstruct the inner drains. She also inspected the nearby pumping station and directed officials to ensure smooth running of pumps to prevent water-logging in the area.
