Noida: Two engineering students killed in road accident

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Utkarsh Singh (21), a native of Allahabad and Vaishnavi Gupta (20), a native of Varanasi.

Two student of IIMT college died after the scooty on which they were travelling collided with a UP Roadways Bus, which allegedly applied sudden brakes to pick up passenger in Sector 168 area of Noida-Greater Noida Expressway on Sunday afternoon. Police said that they have seized the bus while the driver is on a run.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Utkarsh Singh (21), a native of Allahabad and Vaishnavi Gupta (20), a native of Varanasi. Both studying B-tech in Electronic Communication from IIMT College in Greater Noida.

"We received a police control room call at around 12:15 pm from a bystander who informed the accident. A team reached the spot and rushed the two to the hospital where both were declared brought dead on arrival," said a senior police officer.

During investigation it came to light that the deceased were travelling at the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway on a scooty towards Noida when the bus applied sudden brakes to pick passengers at Chaprauli Cut in Sector 168.

"The two wheeler was just behind the bus and as the stopped, it collided into it from back. Singh was wearing a helmet which broke into two," said a senior police officer.

Police said that they have informed the deceased's family members. While official at the hospital said that major head injuries led to the death of the two.

"We are waiting for an official complaint from the deceased's family. Meanwhile, the driver of the roadways bus had fled away from the spot while the bus was seized," said the officer.
