A four-and-a-half-year-old girl fell into an open manhole near the main gate of a high rise in sector 74 of Noida on Tuesday morning. Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the Noida authority, builder and the security agency of the society. The girl was safely taken out by locals, police said.

Srisha Mehra, a resident of Supertech Capetown society, was waiting for the school bus when the incident took place. "At around 7.30 am, Srisha was playing with her friends while waiting for the bus," said Sukriti, her mother.

"There was an open manhole just a few steps away. My daughter took a couple of steps back while playing, and fell right into the manhole."

Fortunately, Sukriti was holding her mother's hand, and did not fall in completely. "If my wife had not been holding her hand, we could have lost her today," said Ashish, Srisha's father. "The builder also uses this stretch for illegal parking for outsiders. When she was playing, a driver was honking for a spot and that startled my girl, and she stepped back into the manhole." Mehra said that none of the security guards rushed to help rescue the girl.
Srisha was rushed to a nearby hospital, where the doctors advised her two weeks of bed rest.

"The manhole is about 18-ft deep. There are around 12 manholes on the same stretch. Noida Authority should cover these all manholes, and the developer should also come forward to do something about the situation," said Mehra.

A team of Noida authority officials were sent for inspections and orders have been given to cover all the open manholes in the sector.
