It was a visceral sight at the Noida district hospital, where relatives and friends of people who lost their lives in a major fire that broke out at an electrical factory in Noida's Sector 11 had gathered.

Six people, including 22-year-old Jasmeet Kaur, a resident of Punjab, died in the blaze that broke out at 12.45 pm. Jasmeet, a Delhi University BA (H) student was working with the Human Resources (HR) department of the firm. She had called her cousin, Shaan, with whom she was staying, at 1.35 pm to inform him about the fire.

"Jasmeet called me and said a fire had broken out in her office building. She was trying to call the fire department but was unable to get through," Shaan said. According to him, Jasmeet then ran to the fifth floor of the building to save herself but could not get out as the door to the terrace was shut. She got trapped and was charred beyond recognition.

Her family members have accused the authorities of a lackadaisical attitude. "The officials didn't act on time," a family member claimed.

Jasmeet had been living in Delhi for the last one-and-a-half years and has a brother, Sahaspreet, 13. Her family members rushed to Delhi as soon as they were informed of the incident. While most of the family members of the victims refused to talk to DNA, a woman said she was waiting for her husband's body. The aggrieved families demanded that the post-mortem be conducted at the earliest, so that they could perform the last rites.

DNA test will be performed on two bodies to ascertain their identity. According to a relative, Director of the firm that caught fire, Sanjay Das, is feared trapped on the fifth floor of the building.

Meanwhile, local MLA Pankaj Singh and District Magistrate N P Singh visited the spot and assured the victims' families of all help possible.
