No sign of relief for Delhiites from scorching heat

As predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department, the national Capital will continue to reel under scorching heat as a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius is recorded on Saturday. While the weather department had predicted generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle on the said day, Delhi did not get any relief from the searing heat that has gripped it for the past two weeks.

According to the meteorological department, strong surface winds during daytime will blow in the next two days, adding to the heat. However, the temperature may look pleasant in the following week with the weather department predicting thunderstorm and rain around Wednesday.

The Palam observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 44.9 degrees Celsius, which was six degrees more than the season's average. The minimum temperature settled at 5.3 degrees above normal, at 32 degrees Celsius. The Safdarjung observatory, on the other hand, touched mercury at 43 degrees Celsius, 4.5 degrees Celsius more than average. The minimum temperature meanwhile remained at 32 degrees Celsius, 3.4 degrees above the normal.

Humidity on Saturday also added to summer woes of residents. The relative humidity recorded at 8:30 in the morning was 47 per cent while in the evening at 5:30, it was 22 per cent.

The weatherman warned of little relief from the hot weather and increasing humidity level till next week. Mercury will oscillate between 43 to 39 degrees Celsius till Thursday when rain or thundershower is expected in the city. The mercury is likely to drop to 38 degrees Celsius on Friday, June 29, 2018.
