Nigerian killed in scuffle between 2 groups

A Nigerian national was stabbed to death following a violent scuffle between two groups of Nigerians in south Delhi's Chhatarpur area late night on Friday. Police have detained two of the accused, while search for the other suspects is on.

According to police, as told by locals and witnesses, it was around 9 pm when two Nigerians got into a heated argument, which soon turned into a violent scuffle. Seeing this, their supporters also rushed to the spot; this escalated the brawl. Police said it was amid the ruckus, that one of the men took out something sharp and inflicted injuries on one Nigerian national. He began bleeding profusely and collapsed. The accused fled the spot.

The man was rushed to a hospital and the police control room was also informed. He was declared brought dead at the hospital and a case of murder was registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections.

DCP south, Romil Baaniya said that according to preliminary inquiry, it appears to be a personal issue between two groups. "A case has been registered and one suspect, another Nigerian national, has been identified and detained. He is being interrogated to help identify the others and a search for has been initiated," Baaniya said.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Harry. People who know him also told the police that he was also known as Mr Kiwi.

This, however, is not the first incident where Nigerians have been found guilty. In November last year, a Nigerian national was arrested for his alleged involvement in a scuffle between a group of African men and another man at a private nursing home in south Delhi. The hospital staff had said that the fight started after three wounded Nigerian men, who had arrived at the nursing home, were attacked by a group of 10 to 12 Nigerians, who were waiting outside the nursing home. The group had attacked the man with swords and knives
