The commission took cognizance of the incident on the basis of a complaint alleging that on the 23rd November, 2013, Aman, student of class seventh of a Government school was beaten up with a stick by the Principal as a result bones of his both wrists were broken.
Setting aside the contention of the Delhi Government, the National Human Rights Commission has recommended that it pay Rs.25 thousand as monetary relief to the boy, who was a victim of corporal punishment.
The Delhi Government was of the view that since the action had been taken against the Principal of the concerned government school for beating with stick to a class seventh boy and criminal action was also taken by police, the award of monetary relief would not be appropriate, especially when the injuries did not seem to be grave.
The commission observed that it is an established fact that the victim was subjected to unreasonable corporal punishment and thereby his human rights were violated. Therefore, it directed the Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi to pay the amount of monetary relief as recommended by it and submit a compliance report within six weeks.

However, after the enquiry, it was found that though the boy was beaten up but he had no fractures. The accused was arrested on the same day of the incident and a chargesheet was prepared on the 4th February, 2014 which was filed before the Court on February 12, 2014.
