After a video surfaced on social media of a person allegedly strangling a street dog to death with his feet in Noida's Sector 45 on Friday night, two NGOs - the Humane Society International (HSI) of India and Fauna Police have moved into action. HSI has already announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for any information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person seen in the video.

The 18-second video clip, shot by a passerby, shows a heavily drunk traffic police personnel, pressing a dog to the ground with his feet for about an hour, before it died.

The man who shot the incident told people at Fauna Police that despite several requests, he continued to stand on the dog.

"He stood on the dog with his feet making the animal immovable. When people asked him to leave the dog he quarrelled with them and did not move. He wanted to kill the animal, as it had barked at him," the eyewitness said.

The incident took place at Som Bazaar in Noida Sector 45 between 9 pm and 10 pm on Friday night.

Fauna Police has said they will take strict action and will get the man arrested.

"Anyone so callous should be brought to book, regardless of whether they are a civilian or an authority. Anyone with information that will lead us to the identifying the perpetrator of this killing is requested to call us at +91 9212111116." said Abhinav Srihan, Founder, Fauna Police.

Meanwhile, the HSI has also approached the police to register a complaint in the matter under the prevention of cruelty to animals.

"We have been informed about such an incident by representatives of People for Animals. We shall establish the authenticity of the video and investigate into the matter further," said Ajay Kumar Singh, the station house officer of Sector 39 police station.
