New Delhi becomes fortress on Republic day: Advisory details regarding Metro, other services

As the National capital of India celebrates the 69th Republic day, the heart of the nation, New Delhi has turned into a fortress. To strengthen the layers of security, around 60,000 security personnel had been deployed from the Delhi Police and central security forces. 

The traffic police have also deployed over 1,500 personnel to manage route diversions and ensure safe and secure passage for the visiting dignitaries. 

With the presence of prominent leaders from 10 ASEAN countries as the Chief Guestes for the Reoublic Day Parade, the intelligence agencies would not be taking any chance related to security matter. 

But if you are a Delhiite and wishes to go out today, or are in Delhi to join the Republic day celebrations, here's a complete advisory related to metro and traffic in the capital. 

The traffic movement on Rajpath from Vijay Chowk to India Gate till the parade gets over is not allowed. 

There would also be no cross traffic on Rajpath  at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh will be allowed till the Republic Day Parade is on. 

 

India Gate has also been shut till the time of Republic Day parade. 

 

Traffic would not be allowed in both directions on Tilak Mark, BSZ Marg and Subhash Marg from 10:00 AM on January 26.

Delhi Traffic Police has urged commuters to check Google Maps for the best alternate routes.

Delhi Metro services are running according to the slight schedule modifications. 

Metro schedules of Line - 2 (HUDA City Centre - Samaypur Badli), Line - 3 (Noida City Centre - Dwarka Sector 21), Line -4 (Yamuna Bank to Vaishali) and Line 6 (Kashmere Gate-Escorts Mujesar) have been partially modified for January 26, Friday.

For Line 2, the entry and exit at Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan Metro stations will remain closed from 6 AM to12 noon. In Patel Chowk and Lok Kalyan Marg metro stations, entry and exit will remain closed from 8:45 AM to 12:00 Noon.

Central Secretariat station will only be used for interchange of passengers between Line 2 and Line 6.

For Line 3 and 4, train services will be stopped at Mandi House and Pragati Maidan Metro stations during the period when parade passes under Tilak Bridge. However, the actual time of stoppage of train movement will be on receipt of directions from New Delhi Police Control Room.

During this period, trains will run in three short loops on this corridor - NOIDA City Centre to Indraprastha, Vaishali to Yamuna Bank, Dwarka Sector 21 to Barakhamba Road.

The metro stations on Line-6 namely ITO, Delhi Gate, Lal Quila, Jama Masjid will remain open throughout the day.

Apart from this, the parking lot of all Metro stations will remain close today.
