While the CCTV camera row continues in the national Capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), which was working on installing cameras in residential colonies for past two years, has stopped further installation following the formation of the new committee by the Lieutenant Governor.

The CM, who is also a member of the NDMC, took to Twitter saying, "NDMC was installing CCTV cameras in residential colonies for last 2 yrs. In view of LG's committee, NDMC has also stopped further installation of cameras. Extremely unfortunate. Whatever gud work was gng on, all stopped. Dirty politics with women safety. (sic)"

The NDMC is a civic body which caters to Lutyen's Delhi.

L-G Anil Baijal had formed a new committee on creating a standard operating procedure (SOP) for installation, operation and monitoring of CCTVs in the city.

However, when asked senior officer from the NDMC said, "The civic body did not stop work. The public works department (PWD) had invited a bid for 1.4 lakh CCTVs including 2,000 cameras for the NDMC area. An SOP for the same is being formulated by the Delhi government's Home department. We are evaluating rates for additional 1,000 CCTVs in comparison with rates received by the PWD to save public money and to avoid duplication."

The civic body, the officer said, aims to ensure privacy and security in its area.
