NCB cracks down on international drug cartel, 4 nabbed

In a major crackdown on an international drug cartel, the Delhi Zonal Unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) apprehended a Bolivian woman on Monday. As much as 3.2kg cocaine, worth Rs 30 crore in the international market, was seized from her possession.

The officials had been tracking Bolivian national Fernando Rengel Grageda, 20, ever since she landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Monday. She had arrived on an Ethiopian Airlines flight. She then checked in to a hotel in Paharganj, where another person, identified as Lhingpichong alias Shilpa, 28, came to receive the consignment from her.

Shilpa was apprehended as well. She revealed that she was supposed to hand over the consignment to another woman, Sanali Khan alias Joyce Karoung, 41, who was also nabbed. Khan further disclosed that the owner of the consignment was a Nigerian national, Odonga Chickwuebuka Stephen, 38. On her instance, he was apprehended as well.

Grageda told the police that a Nigerian national, Nagreta, had given her the packet in Bolivia and she was supposed to get $4,000 for being the carrier.

Meanwhile, in another seizure, a Bolivian drug trafficker, identified as Soleto Justiniano Fernando, was intercepted at the airport. He had arrived in the country from Sao Paolo on an Ethiopian Airlines flight. Officials suspected that he was carrying drugs. When his baggage was checked, however, nothing was recovered. He was then taken to the Safdarjung Hospital, where an X-ray revealed cocaine capsules in his stomach.       

He was admitted to the hospital and 50 capsules, weighing around 500g, were retrieved from his body. He was supposed to deliver the pills to a person in Goa but did not know who that was.

South African national held

The Delhi Zonal Unit seized 440g of amphetamine on Monday and apprehended a South African national, Franklyn R Zodwa, in this regard. He had been living in India since January last year. His business permit visa expired in January, this year. He had arrived at the Gol Dakhana Post Office to dispatch a parcel for Australia when he was caught. He was also involved in a case of drug trafficking to Australia, which is being investigated by the NCB, Delhi.
