National Capital set to host 20th Bharat Rang Mahotsav

The 20th Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM) by the National School of Drama (NSD) is all set to bring a bouquet of plays, interactive sessions, and other such cultural events for theatre and art lovers. BRM is touted as the largest theatre festival in Asia.

The festival — to be held from February 1 to February 21 — will bring a diverse range of productions comprising of over 110 shows, and events like Director's Meet, Living Legend, and Master Class.

The inaugural ceremony will be held at the Kamani Auditorium on February 1 at 6 PM followed by the performance Karanth Ke Rang, directed by Amod Bhatt. The 50-minute long medley of songs is a composition by BV Karanth, a stalwart of Kannada and Hindi theatres.

The festival, which will enter its 20th edition this year, will also celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. It will stage four plays on the life, philosophy, and principles of the Father of the Nation.

The BRM will host 69 Indian and 15 foreign plays across the country. The plays will be selected after screening. Additionally, nine folk productions, five plays by NSD diploma students, a production from the Sikkim Centre of NSD, three plays by the NSD Repertory as well as five invitee plays by eminent theatre practitioners will be organised.

Meanwhile, the national capital will host 89 plays in Sanskrit, Hindi, and English as well as regional languages like Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Manipuri, Malayalam, Maithili. Additionally, international productions from countries like Bangladesh, Poland, Russia, Sri Lanka, the Czech Republic, Italy, Nepal, Romania, and Singapore as well as non-verbal, folk, and multi-lingual performances will also delight theatre goers.

The performances in New Delhi will be held at the NSD's Bahawalpur House campus, Sri Ram Centre, Little Theatre Group and Kamani Auditoriums.

"The art of theatre is the oldest and the strongest medium that conveys human emotions in a manner that defies temporal boundaries. We are delighted to usher in the Bharat Rang Mahotsav to its 20th year and have made all efforts to bring a selection of quality plays, choosing the best out of 960 submissions," director-in-charge of NSD, Suresh Sharma said.
