On the day of the incident, one Kashish Bansal, a resident of Rohini, was going to Gurugram along with his driver Shambhu in his car to deliver Rs 70 lakh cash to his brother-in-law's friends Saurabh Bansal and Deepak Ghatana. He had also collected a pink-coloured bag containing Rs 28.50 lakh from Prince from Punjab National Bank at Prashant Vihar, Vijay Kumar, DCP (West) said.

When they reached the Naraina Flyover at 2:35 pm, three bike-borne armed men came and stopped their car. One of them pointed a pistol at him and other one lifted the remote key and mobile phone from his car and also took the bag containing Rs 70 lakh and fled away on the motorcycle from the spot. However, the other bag containing Rs 28.50 lakh was untouched as it was lying behind the driver's seat. Kashish immediately lodged a complaint at the Naraina police station and a case under section 392/394/34 of the IPC was registered and an investigation was taken up, the police said.

During the course of the investigation, people known to the complainant were interrogated thoroughly. A video footage was obtained from a passerby who had shot the incident. After seeing the video footage, one accused Monu Sharma was identified who was arrested by the Adarsh Nagar police. On his instance, Rs 9.41 lakh cash and a country-made pistol were recovered. The juvenile accused was apprehended on Monday and Rs 1 lakh was recovered from his possession. On interrogation, Jitender disclosed the involvement of Shambhu (the driver of the victim) in the robbery. Shambhu has been arrested and Rs 1 lakh has been recovered from his house. Further, another accused juvenile involved in the crime has also been apprehended and Rs 1.60 lakh has also been recovered from his possession.
