A month after the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb Ahmed went missing under mysterious circumstances, his family members, along with some varsity students, met Leader of Opposition in the Parliament, Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Tuesday and urged him to raise the issue during the upcoming Winter Session.

"We met Ghulam Nabi Azad and appealed to him to raise the issue in the Parliament. He told us that the matter was discussed during the Parliamentary Joint Committee meeting and assured us that the Opposition will raise it on the second day of Winter Session," said Ahmed's sister Sadaf Musharraf.

The family also met Congress leader Sheila Dikshit, who assured them of taking every possible step to trace Ahmed. The first-year MSc student has been missing since October 15, following an altercation with some ABVP activists the night before at Mahi Mandvi hostel.

Earlier in the day, the university students, along with members of several student organisations, took out the 'Chalo JNU' march, followed by an open protest meeting at the JNU administration building. Scores of students from Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi University, Allahabad University, and Banaras Hindu University (BHU), among others, participated in the march to extend their solidarity to JNU Students Union and Ahmed's family.

On Monday, the JNU administration had issued a notice to students, warning them of not organising any sit-ins or demonstrations, citing security in the campus as the reason.

"Hundreds of students from various universities have come to extend their support to Ahmed's family and the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) is calling them 'outsiders'. For us, the V-C is the outsider, who sits in his office and issues notices to his students," said JNU Students Union President Mohit Pandey. "The Delhi Police's failure is so evident. They failed to trace Ahmed and transferred the case to its crime branch," he added.
