People in Noida will have to wait a little more for the multi-level parking facility in Sector 18 market complex as the Noida Authority pushed its deadline to December 31 on Wednesday.

According to a senior authority official, work on the parking commenced on July 22, 2013, and was initially slated to be completed by July 21, 2015.

"The private agency which was assigned to complete the project has failed to finish the work as per the deadline. We have imposed a penalty on the agency for slow construction work. The new deadline for the agency is December 31. We will take strict action if they fail to do so. The private agency's work was slowed down due to financial issues," said a senior project engineer of Noida Authority.

According to a senior official, the agency is yet to finish working on shafts and hasn't completed plastering of the walls also.

"The eight-level parking facility will accommodate over 3,000 cars which will solve the issue of the commuters of the Sector -18 hub. The authority failed to complete the parking facility as per scheduled deadline because the contractor had stopped work mid-way," the officer added.

The parking area in Sector 18 market is always filled to capacity and the vehicles often spill over on to the roads, causing difficulties for visitors and traders, particularly during the weekend.

Till now the parking project has missed seven deadlines. Since July 2015, it has missed deadlines including December 2015, March 2016, June 2016, August 2016, July 2017 and October 2017. It is now supposed to be completed by the end of the year.
