The Crime Branch of Delhi police have arrested a wanted criminal belonging to the notorious Nasir gang. The criminal, Rashid, carried a bounty of Rs 1 lakh, police said on Saturday. Rashid is a history-sheeter with involvements in murder, attempt to murder and Arms Act.

"The accused has been identified as Rashid alias Cablewala. He was one of the most wanted criminals of Delhi. He has previously been involved in four cases of Murder, attempt to murder, Robbery, Arms Act from 2006 to 2017," said Dr G Ram Gopal Naik, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch.

According to the police, an ongoing rivalry between the gangs of Nasir and Irfan alias Chhenu in Trans-Yamuna area of Delhi has been going on since eight years. Many lives have been lost in their rivalry.

"In the month of April, 2017 Nasir, Rashid and other gang members killed Mohammad Qamar and Imran and injured Rashid Golu by firing indiscriminately in North-East Delhi's Jafrabad area. Ever since, Rashid and Hashim baba were on the run while all the other accused had been arrested by local police and the Special Cell of Delhi Police.

Several police teams visited all the possible hideouts of accused in the areas in West UP, Haryana, Rajasthan and North-East Delhi. Police officials were informed that in order to evade arrest accused Rashid had got his passport made from an address in Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh and would be heading to Saudi Arabia and Thailand.

Rahshid had decided he would only come to India to give instructions and support to his other gang members as the main gang leader Nasir who is in custody since April, 2017 and in his absence he was leading the gang.

"The accused had started a garments business in Riyadh and was also expanding that to Thailand. A trap was laid on Friday outside the international airport and he was apprehended by the police," said Naik.
