Sacked Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kapil Mishra fainted during a press conference on Sunday, after levelling fresh allegations of financial “irregularities” against Arvind Kejriwal.
Mishra, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike, demanding that the party disclose the details of foreign trips by its leaders, was immediately rushed to RML Hospital, where his condition was declared to be normal.
Upping the ante against Kejriwal, Mishra claimed that the party concealed from the Election Commission (EC) the total amount of donations it received and used “fictitious” donor names and “shell companies” to launder money. “Kejriwal hid many hawala transactions, donations, and shell companies, playing with taxpayers’ money and hiding information from the Income-Tax Department and the EC,” Mishra alleged.
Before losing consciousness and falling down, Mishra asked Kejriwal to resign by the end of the day or else he threatened that he will “pull him (Kejriwal) by his collar and drag him to the gates of Tihar jail.”
Mishra alleged that the party had received donations worth crores of rupees from 16 “non-existent” companies on the midnight of January 20, 2014. Skyline Metal and Overseas Fashion were some of the fake companies he mentioned.
“All these shell companies are registered in the name of AAP MLA Shiv Charan Goyal. They have transferred Rs 2 crore to Kejriwal at 12 am on January 20, 2014. The funds received from these companies were sent to the Krishna Nagar branch of Axis Bank, where cases of converting black money into white were reported at the time of demonetization,” Mishra alleged.
He said that the party had received Rs 90 lakh as donation from a person identified as Priya Bansal of Bengaluru in 2014-15 and 2015-16, but the tax payable on her income was merely Rs 4,000. “In 2014-15, AAP had Rs 65.5 crore in its bank account, but the EC was informed only about Rs 32.4 crore while the party put only Rs Rs 27.3 crore in the public domain and told its volunteers it had no money,” he said. “The party had made 461 bogus entries,” he added.
The party, however, declined Mishra’s claims, saying he has been echoing the allegations that the BJP voiced just before the 2015 Assembly polls. “This is the BJP’s ploy to finish AAP. It should stop questioning the credentials of AAP and Kejriwal as we have ensured all transparency while accepting funds,” Singh said.
He also displayed a blank cheque worth Rs 35 crore without a date which has already been encashed. “All this happened with the knowledge of Arvind Kejriwal. I will go to the CBI tomorrow and submit these documents,” Mishra said.
The 36-year-old former Delhi minister also claimed that he would collect documents in connection with a “big scam” in AAP’s mohalla clinic. He also demanded Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to order an inquiry into the foreign trips of AAP leaders.
Mishra was accompanied by a man identified as Neil Haslam, who, he said, helped in “exposing” the funding. AAP claimed that Haslam was a BJP man. “Kapil’s aide Neel also worked with Arun Jaitley and the BJP. And now he is doing a press conference with Mishra.”
Earlier, Mishra had levelled corruption charges against Kejriwal and health minister Satyendra Jain. He also filed a complaint with the ACB against Kejriwal and other AAP leaders in the alleged Rs 400 crore water tanker scam.
