A minor scuffle broke out between two student groups in Delhi University’s (DU) Deshbandhu College during their annual festival on Monday, after the college authorities postponed an event in which playback singer Neha Kakkar was scheduled to perform.

According to the college authorities, the programme was postponed because the performer did not turn up on time. “The performer was scheduled to come at 4 pm and the programme was to commence by 6.30 pm. When she did not arrive even by 7.30 pm, we decided to postpone the concert,” Principal Ajay Arora said.

After hearing about the development, some students started raising slogans against the college. “Nothing major happened as the police took prompt action and controlled the situation. The college authorities will meet on Tuesday to decide another date for the event,” Arora said.

“There was a show by a singer who did not turn up. So, students got angry. They were pacified by organisers and the police, after which they left the campus,” the police said. Meanwhile, some students alleged the programme was postponed because of a payment issue.
