The recent spate of technical snags in Metro trains has prompted Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Chief Mangu Singh to issue a series of directions to the concerned units.

Singh reviewed the operational issues in the over 200km network on Sunday and identified several trouble spots, mainly pertaining to signalling and power supply. He then directed that the faulty Automatic Train Control (ATC) cards, a speed control mechanism on trains, be fixed immediately. Failure of ATC cards leads to disruptions.

The faulty Train Interface Computer (TIC) cards will also be replaced within the next six months, a senior DMRC official said. In addition, to prevent the frequent theft of copper made S Bond cables, steel- made S Bond cables have been installed at all the theft-prone areas of the network.

Besides, high-reliability Relay Boards are being provided in the Track Circuit System. These electrical devices are used to detect the absence of train on tracks for greater efficiency, the official said, adding that the Relay Boards at the Noida City Centre, Vaishali, and Dwarka Sector-21 have already been replaced, and the work is in progress at Dwarka and Yamuna Bank.

Axle Counters, which can detect entry and exit of trains from a certain location and certify whether the section is clear for a second train or not, are also likely to be installed at all originating points on Blue Line, i.e, Dwarka, Dwarka Sector-21, Yamuna Bank, Noida City Centre, and Vaishali, to minimise disturbances.

Besides, backup of a Central Automatic Train Supervision (ATS), a system that provides appropriate controls to direct the operation of trains, is also being planned.

The DMRC officials said an action plan has been prepared based on the past experiences and insulators have been replaced across the network to prevent disruptions. An OHE Maintenance Training Simulator has also been developed to provide enhanced training to the traction staff, the official added.
