Mercury down by few notches in the National Capital

The weatherman has predicted rain and thundershowers in few areas on Saturday.

Delhiites received bittersweet relief with rains that lashed parts of the national Capital Friday evening. While it brought the mercury down by a few notches, humidity level soared to 90 per cent.

"The maximum temperature settled at 35.6 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal while the minimum was recorded at 27.9 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year," a Meteorological official said. Humidity levels, meanwhile, oscillated between 90 and 59 per cent.

While the Safdarjung Observatory recorded 8.4 mm rainfall, traces of rain were recorded by its Palam counterpart. The Lodhi Road and Aya Nagar observatories recorded 4.7 mm and 10.4 mm rainfall, respectively.

Monsoon arrived a day early in the national Capital on Thursday. The weatherman has predicted rain and thundershowers in few areas on Saturday. "The skies will remain cloudy and there is a possibility of thundershowers in various areas of the city later in the day tomorrow," an official of the department said.

The official also said that the maximum temperature is expected to settle at 36 degrees Celsius. On Thursday, the minimum temperature recorded was 24.2 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature settled at 35.2 degree Celsius.
