Man tries to commit suicide outside Rajnath Singh's home

A 42-year-old man tried to commit suicide by cutting his wrist outside the home minister's house at Akbar Road in New Delhi on Thursday night. Police said the man is out of danger and is being treated at RML hospital. A note has been recovered from his possession, police said.

According to the police, the man has been identified as Raj Kumar, who cut both his wrists, outside the Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh's residence.

"We received a call at around 10 am about a man lying on the road in a semi-conscious state with cuts on both the wrists. The patrolling van reached the spot and rushed him to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital," said Kumar Gyanesh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi).

Officials at the hospital said that he was out of danger but has been kept under observation.

"We have recovered a note from his possession in which he has mentioned that he is being spied on by satellites and GPS. He is being stopped from doing his work and when he narrates it to the people, they laughed at him," said Gyanesh.

Police said they suspect that the man was mentally unstable and a medical test will be conducted to check his mental condition.

"According to the note recovered, he lives in Mukherjee Nagar, however, no other documents were found from his possession. When police went to check his house, it was found that he lived alone," said Gyanesh.

After further investigation, it was found that Kumar actually hails from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh.

"Once he recovers, we will record his statements and dig out more information," said Gyanesh.
