A man was allegedly killed by his nephew and his friend when he allegedly spoke ill about her during her engagement ceremony in south Delhi's Tigri. The man was stabbed using a meat chopping knife when he was on his way back home, late night on Sunday, after the function.

The deceased was identified as Sunil Kumar, a driver by profession who lives at a JJ camp in Tigri. The two accused who have been arrested have been identified as Vishal, the deceased's nephew and his friend Rahul.

The police said that the motive of the murder is yet to be ascertained, however, it according to sources there had been an argument between the victim and the assailants when they heard Sunil making unsavoury comments about the bride.

Deputy commissioner of police (south), Romil Baaniya said that on Sunday night a call was received at the Neb Sarai police station reporting that a man had been stabbed in Tigri. When a police team arrived at the spot, it found that the injured had been shifted to Batra Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds during the treatment, the DCP said.

"During the investigation, it was found that the murder was a fallout of a sudden provocation after Sunil commented on the woman who was getting engaged. Vishal, the woman's brother, had objected to Sunil's comment and an argument ensued between them which soon took an ugly turn.

When Sunil was returning home late in the night, Vishal and Rahul caught Sunil. Following an argument, the duo stabbed Sunil multiple times using a meat chopping knife," said a cop.

Gulshan, the deceased's eldest brother said that they did not know what sparked the killing. "We have no idea. Sunil had gone to attend his niece's engagement function. Something went wrong and some men caught Sunil on his way back home and killed him," said Gulshan, adding that Sunil was the youngest in the family and is survived by two brothers, a sister and parents.

Baaniya confirmed that both Vishal and Rahul have been arrested. "They have been booked for murder in a case under section 302. Involvement of others is being checked," the DCP said.
