Man shot at in Lutyens Delhi

Just when the city was put on high alert in wake of the upcoming Republic Day, a 26-year-old man was on Wednesday night shot at by three bike-borne assailants on Mandir Marg of Lutyens Delhi. The incident took place when around 5,000 policemen were posted in the Lutyens area for security purposes.

Just when the city was put on high alert in wake of the upcoming Republic Day, a 26-year-old man was on Wednesday night shot at by three bike-borne assailants on Mandir Marg of Lutyens Delhi. The incident took place when around 5,000 policemen were posted in the Lutyens area for security purposes.

Police have identified the victim as Deepak who is a resident of a slum near Kalavati Hospital and has sustained a bullet injury in his right leg. Deepak worked at the Kalavati hospital's canteen run by one Mohan Kakkad. On Wednesday night, he was on his way to run an errand when the assailants intercepted him near RK Ashram on Mandir Marg, grabbed him and then shot him after he refused to give the whereabouts of Kakkad.

Deepak told police that when he tried to raise an alarm, the three assailants got who scared fired at him and fled the spot. The bullet hit his right leg following which Deepak collapsed on the road. He was taken to the nearest police control room (PCR) van when he asked an autorickshaw driver for help from where the cops took him to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

"Based on the statement of the victim, we have registered a case of assault and attempt to murder," said a senior police officer adding that they have identified the main accused as Shiv Dayal.
