A Gurugram resident has landed in the police’s net after poisoning his 17-year-old niece, whom he had been raping for the last four months. The accused himself is in hospital at present as he also consumed poison, and will be arrested soon, police said.

The matter came to light on Saturday when the girl, a Class X student, went missing from her home in the Khandsa village. When she returned after a few hours, she was questioned by her parents. She then revealed that her uncle had taken her to nearby shed and raped her.

In a little while, the girl started feeling dizzy and was admitted to the Civil Hospital, where her condition soon turned critical.

“In her statement given to the police on Sunday, the girl said that her uncle had been sexually assaulting her for the last 3-4 months. She said she kept quiet because he had threatened her with dire circumstances,” Inspector Amit Kumar, SHO, Sector 37 police station, said.

In her statement, she also revealed that the accused used to give her some pills on a regular basis, and on Saturday as well, he had given her a pill. Soon after recording her statement, the girl died.

When the family members of the girl and the police reached the residence of the accused, he also consumed poison. He is now being treated under police custody in the Safdarjung Hospital. According to the police, he had consumed Sulphas tablets and is now out of danger. He has confesssed to have committed the crime and will be arrested soon, the cops said.

An auto driver by profession, the accused has four children and has been living with his family in Gurugram for the last 10 years.  A case has been registered under Sections 302 (murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Sector 37 police station in Gurugram.
