The accused has been identified as 33-year-old Rakesh Bhatnagar and he has been arrested
In a horrific incident, a man allegedly raped an 18-month-old baby when she went over to his house to play with his children on Wednesday morning. The two were neighbours in outer Delhi's Aman Vihar area.
"The condition of the girl is not medically serious," said MN Tiwari, deputy commissioner of police, Outer Delhi. "A case has been registered under 6 POCSO act (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault). The accused has been identified as 33-year-old Rakesh Bhatnagar and he has been arrested. Bhatnagar resides in the area with his wife and children."
Swati Maliwal, chief of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) went to meet the victim who is being treated at Sanjay Gandhi hospital. She expressed her anger on Twitter, saying (sic) "1.5 year old baby brutally raped in Aman Vihar. Operated for 1.5 hrs. Pl @rajnathsingh ji, call hi level meet of CM, LG, Police Comm & DCW!"
In another tweet, she said "(sic) Requested High Level Committee meet on women safety zillion times from Centre. No result. Is the 1.5 year old girl not Nirbhaya? R daughter?"
The baby girl had gone to play with Bhatnagar's children – aged four and two – at his house. His children were in the same room when he allegedly assaulted her. His wife was on the terrace and came rushing down when she heard the girl's screams. She took the baby to her house and told her mother that she fell while playing and thus was bleeding.
The girl's mother rushed her to Sanjay Gandhi hospital, where the doctors informed that she had been sexually assaulted. The baby sustained injuries on her private parts and needed four stitches.
The mother registered a case with the police. Bhatnagar had fled from his house by then but was nabbed by cops on Wednesday night.

- Another incident was reported from south-east Delhi's Amar Colony area. A man molested his four-year-old daughter in their home. The mother first called the police and later, the girl was taken for medical examination. However, her family members refused permission for an internal examination. A case has been registered under section 354, 354 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 10 POCSO. The father has been arrested and sent to jail.
