Man nabbed for stealing church funds

A 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing from the donation box of a church in Lutyens' Delhi area on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Pawan Kumar Chouhan.

According to the police on January 3, a prayer programme was held at the CNI Church at Pandit Pant Marg. "At 6pm, a man was spotted standing near the donation box with a bible in his hand. While he acted like he was also participating in the prayer he broke the lock of the donation box and took out all the money from the box," said a senior police officer.

The area where the donation box is kept was under CCTV surveillance and the man actions were captured. The police was informed and Chouhan was arrested and stolen money worth Rs 1,300 was recovered from him. He told the police that he is involved in two other theft cases with the same modus operandi in the jurisdiction of the North Avenue police station.

MODUS OPERANDI

CCTV shows man standing near the donation box with a bible in hand. While he acted like he was also participating in the prayer he broke the lock of the box and stole the money from the box, said police.
