A 22-year-old man was arrested for being involved in a murder at Okhla Phase-II on Saturday last week.

The police identified the arrested man as Sandeep alias Bulli, a resident of Okhla Phase-I. The police also recovered the blood-stained knife used in the murder along with the robbed mobile phone of the deceased from his possession.

According to the police, an unidentified person was found lying with multiple stab wounds on Saturday night near the boundary wall of the Domestic Container Depot at Okhla Phase-II. The man was then immediately shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre by the Police Control Room (PCR) van where he was declared dead on arrival.

"Later, on the basis of a bank deposit slip found in his pocket, we identified the deceased as one Arvind Singh Chauhan, a 30-year-old man from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, who was residing at Sagarpur in South-West Delhi. Accordingly, a case was registered and the investigation started," said a police official involved in the case.

The police began the investigation by trying to trace Chauhan's mobile phone which was missing. The police relied on local informers and technical surveillance for the purpose.

The investigating team later traced the missing phone to one Manoj, who was a resident of Okhla. "Manoj revealed that he had bought it from another person. On further enquiry, we found that the phone had changed hands several times, the source of which was traced to Sandeep. Subjected to sustained interrogation, Sandeep finally confessed to his involvement in the murder," the official added.
