South-West district police have arrested a man involved in the murder of a minor boy from Kailashpuri area of Sagarpur in West Delhi on Sunday.

According to police, the accused has been identified as Nanhe Lal, who murdered his nephew on   suspicion of his having illicit relations with his wife on August 1. He was arrested following a tip off regarding his visit to Sagarpur.

“We received information that Lal was to visit Sagarpur, following which a trap was laid. A special team was formed and he was arrested. During sustained interrogation, he confessed to his crime,” said Gaurav Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of police (South-West).

Earlier, Lal had cleverly joined the investigation and tried to misguide police. He had also won the confidence of the deceased’s parents. However, his version was not corroborated by technical evidence.

“When he sensed police was onto him and able to trace him, he switched off his mobile phone and shifted locations. Several raids were also conducted in Badayun and Bareilly to find the suspect, but he remained untraceable,” added Sharma.

During the interrogation, the accused revealed that in 2013, he and his wife shifted to Longowal area of Punjab. He started suspecting the character of his wife and used to beat her. His wife had good relations with his nephew (Lal) and this made him suspect there was something amiss.

“He made a plan to set up his wife and her brother for the murder of his nephew to get rid of his wife and his nephew in one go,” Sharma added.
