Man arrested for killing daughter, attacking wife in South Delhi's Sangam Vihar

Owing to a financial crisis, a man attacked his wife and two daughters with an iron rod while they were sleeping in South Delhi's Sangam Vihar area on Tuesday morning. While one of his daughters died, his wife and the other daughter are undergoing treatment. The accused was also planning to kill himself but was arrested before that.

"The father Nand Kishore (55) hit his wife Vidyavati (50) and two daughters Kavita (22) and Suman (24). The family was reeling under a financial crisis. Nand Kishore, who works as a bicycle mechanic in the area, was arrested. Kavita was declared dead on arrival at the hospital," said Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South Delhi.

Nand Kishore told the police that after the wedding of his third daughter, he was barely left with money to get the other two daughters married. Kishore felt it was a burden and would often get upset with this thought. Hence, in the early hours on Tuesday morning, when his wife and daughters were sleeping in the room, he picked up an iron rod and went on a rampage and attacked them. When his son Rahul, who was in the other room, heard the screams he thought a robber had entered the house.

"By the time I reached the room, my sisters and my mother were in a pool of blood and my father next to the bed with the iron rod in his hand. I woke up my younger brothers and rushed them to the hospital without any delay," said Rahul, in his early twenties.

"The family resided in K block area of Sangam Vihar. Kishore had three daughters and three sons Rahul, Ravi, and Mohit. Kavita was pursuing BA at Delhi University. A case of murder has been registered under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code," said Baaniya.
