The Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested a criminal wanted in plotting the murder and robbery case of an elderly couple in Central Delhi. The accused was also trying to plan and plot the murder of an eyewitness in a murder case.
"A sophisticated pistol along with three live cartridges have been recovered from his possession. The accused is identified as Paramjit from Haryana. He is carrying a reward of Rs one lakh on his head," said Pramod Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell.
The Cell, in its continuous endeavour to take action against the gangs involved in targeting elderly couples, was successful in unearthing a plot to rob and murder an elderly couple living in Central Delhi. In June 2018 an information was received that two criminals identified as Pawan and Ombir who were lodged in Rohini Jail were planning to commit a robbery at the house of an elderly couple in Central Delhi. The accused were also planning to kill the eyewitness of a murder case against Pawan. Pawan and Ombir roped in Paramjit in the plan.
In order to execute the plan, Ombir also took parole which was granted to him as well. Realising the sensitivity of the information, a team of officers were on the lookout for the accused. Before his arrest, Pawan had worked as a driver for five years in the house of the elderly couple and was aware of their financial wealth. He knew that they are financially well off and had pharmaceutical companies and factories. Pawan knew that they live alone in the bungalow.
"Pawan while in jail, got acquainted with many criminals including Ombir and Paramjit. In order to earn money and eliminate eyewitness of the murder case they together entered in a criminal conspiracy. Ombir after getting out on parole, as per their plan, contacted one Jagdish, brother in law of Pawan, working as a driver in the area where this elderly couple was residing," said Kushwah.
But before they could execute their plan the two members Ombir and Jagdish were arrested in June from Delhi Cantt. area. Paramjit had been absconding since then.
GANGS TARGETTING ELDERLY, FIND COPS
- A man carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head and wanted for his alleged involvement in a plot to rob and kill an elderly couple was arrested, police said Sunday.
- The accused, Paramjit Singh, was arrested Saturday. He was also part of the plan to eliminate an eyewitness in a murder case against one of the co-conspirators, said the investigation officers.
- Two of his co-conspirators -- Ombir and Jagdish -- were arrested in June this year from Delhi Cantt area, while conspiring to kill the two senior senior citizens, police said.
- The accused were also planning to kill the eyewitness of a murder case against Pawan.
