A 28-year-old man first allegedly stabbed his aunt to death and then attempted suicide in southeast Delhi's Okhla on Saturday afternoon. Police said the initial probe has revealed a love affair behind the murder and suicide attempt.

According to the police, the incident came to light when the neighbours heard the 30-year-old victim's cries for help. When they found the victim's house locked, they called up the PCR and alerted them. However, by the time police arrived, the man had stabbed the woman multiple times and also stabbed himself in order in an attempted suicide. He even tried to drink a hazardous liquid when his first suicide bid failed.

"The woman, who is the accused's mother's sister-in-law, and the accused were found lying in a pool of blood. They were rushed to a hospital where the woman died. The man is receiving treatment. The accused has stab wounds in his abdomen, but is currently out of danger. The woman's body has been sent for an autopsy, while his family has been informed. Prima facie it appears to be a fallout of a love affair or enmity. However, the family members and neighbours are being questioned to find out more details," said an officer.

A crime and forensics team reached the spot to collect samples.
