A new dietary plan is set to hit the platter of more than 2,000 patients of Delhi’s Lok Nayak hospital with the introduction of a new state of the art kitchen system.

The first of its kind in any hospital run by Delhi government, the modular kitchen is expected to lower the manual burden of cooking healthy food with hygienic means.

“Our aim is to provide better healthcare services to the masses than the private hospitals. It is very important for a government to create trust of people towards public services,” said Health Minister, Satyendra Jain, who inaugurated the new kitchen of the Dietary Department in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital.

Designed with the assistance of Delhi Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (DIHM) the kitchen consists of automated machines that can cook quality food in less time, taking hygiene into consideration, which is a major concern in public hospitals.

“This automatic modular kitchen is going to feed our admitted patients who will be provided healthy, hygienic and balanced diet . It will lessen the time consumed in preparing food by 50 per cent and only half of the manual workforce would be required to operate the kitchen,” said JC Passey, Medical Director of Lok nayak Hospital.

According to the catering staff, different dietary meals for varied patients can also be cooked simultaneously in the kitchen.

“We have a lot of pressure of providing food on time to the patients. With this much technology assisting us I hope our job would be easier and we can provide food on time,” said Pankaj Chauhan who cooks rice in the hospital is now trained to run and maintain the rice maker machine.
