The mandate of linking Aadhaar card with PAN, has made people vulnerable to tech-savvy criminal gangs who are making the most of it.

An Air India manager, during his working hours received a call asking him to divulge details of Aadhaar, PAN and even ATM card, warning him, if not done, his accounts will be suspended. Soon as the man cooperated, his account was debited with a handsome amount. IGI police are now tracing the calls to reach the miscreants.

The incident took place on Monday when the victim, a manager at the airline's office at the Indira Gandhi International airport, received a call around 4pm.

As told by the victim to the police, the caller asked him to divulge details of his ATM card, but when he refused, the caller said government has made it necessary to link Aadhaar with ATMs also and disobeying may lead to suspension of account.

"On this, the complainant gave the caller details of his ATM card and even the secret password. He said, minutes after he gave the details to the caller, Rs 50,000 was debited from his account. When he tried to check and called back on the same number the caller could not be contacted. The victim immediately called up the police and a case of forgery was registered," said a senior police officer.

Police are now trying to trace the caller through technical surveillance. Senior police officers also said that the public should be aware of the gangs trying to steal money through online transactions and must not divulge critical account related information without verifying the authenticity of the caller.
