The Gautam Budh Nagar police have registered an FIR against four named and two unnamed persons in connection with the murder of the famous land mafia Motilal Goel late on Monday night. The police have said that the persons named in the FIR are suspected to have murdered Motilal Goel over a property dispute.

According to police, the family members of deceased have named Anil, Vikram, Vijay and Brijpal and two unidentified men suspecting their involvement in Goel's murder.

"Based on the complaint received from victim's family, we have registered an FIR against the accused persons under IPC sections 302 (punishment for murder), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) and 34. Actions will be taken against them and investigations will be followed" said Shwetabh Pandey, circle officer-III, Noida.

Police said that Goel is suspected to have been murdered over a property dispute. Goel had also registered complaints against these persons in past. Family members said that they had received life threats earlier also as some land mafiyas wanted to occupy the land that he had worked hard to get it vacated.

"Prima facie investigations have shown that Goel was murdered over property feud. It was also revealed that the victim has earlier registered complaints against these persons in an attempt to murder and cheating. We are trying to know their whereabouts but as of now, all these persons are absconding. We are also looking for the property which made Goel land into the dispute with these persons" added Pandey.

The land mafia was shot dead by two unidentified bike-borne assailants on Monday evening around 4.30pm at a construction site in Hindon Vihar area of sector 49 in Noida.

The assailants fired seven bullets, of which three to four hit Goel in the head and stomach. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.

Goel was facing about a dozen criminal cases being prosecuted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He had been in Dasna jail for over a decade in connection with land scams totalling almost Rs 2,500 crore. A number of cases of land grabbing also got registered against him in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr districts in past two decades. Presently he was on bail. He was accused of forging revenue papers and was said to possess precious land in areas beyond the Hindon river in Ghaziabad district.
