Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday visited various areas in east Delhi to review sanitation measures in the area. He also requested residents to come forward to make the area garbage free.

In order to comprehensively manage the waste generated in the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) area, the L-G requested the civic body to explore the possibility of enhancing the capacity of the Shastri Park Plant as well as the Ghazipur energy plant.

The Shastri Park facility is built on green philosophy — materials like bricks, sand, tiles, soil etc are used to recycle waste and the recycled water is then used to process the waste. The plant then recycles about 95 per cent of incoming waste.Till date, this plant has processed 2 lakh tons of waste.

The L-G also visited areas like Gandhi Nagar, Geeta Colony, IP Extension and Keshav Kunj to review the sanitation situation. "He was told that EDMC has a difficult job to do as the area is one of the most densely populated pockets in the Capital," said a senior government official.

"East MCD performing in one of the most densely populated areas of India. Urge people to do their bit. Clean Delhi our common goal," Baijal tweeted after visiting the areas.
