Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal pulled up the commissioners of three municipal corporations in Delhi over the delay in development work in areas under their respective jurisdiction, during a review meeting held on Monday.

The three commissioners apprised Baijal about the measures taken in regard to cleanliness and sanitation across the national Capital.

Commissioner of south Corporation, Puneet Goyal, informed that an integrated system of garbage collection has been started in the central zone. He also told the L-G that of the total 155 MCD and DDA markets in south Delhi, redevelopment of 41 markets has been completed.

Similarly, north corporation Commissioner Praveen Gupta apprised the L-G about measures taken regarding sanitation in his area. He informed that 2,000 trash cans had been put up in his region. He also said that instructions had been issued for 313 toilets at restaurants (including petrol pumps), to be used by women.

East Delhi Commissioner Mohanjeet Singh talked about the civic body's target to purchase 5,000 trash cans, of which 1,600 cans have already been purchased. It was further informed that the east civic body will install 30 open gyms by the end of September.

Baijal then emphasised that a proper policy should be formulated for re-development of MCD and DDA markets, in which facilities such as street furniture, parking, installation of trash cans, maintenance of parks, and signages should be clearly mentioned. He also stressed that the responsibility be fixed on shopkeepers to keep their surrounding areas neat and clean and encroachment-free.

The L-G then directed the corporations to beautify areas under flyovers and expedite installation of Water ATMs.
