The poorly dismantled BRT corridor by the Delhi government has been giving nightmares to commuters who hoped for a better situation before it was taken apart. The corridor which was dismantled to ease out the traffic is once again under scanner with Lt Governor Anil Baijal asking for a detailed report from the Delhi government.

In a note to the Transport Commissioner, the L-G's office has sought to know whether the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government followed the laid down procedures in dismantling the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor. The Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government had dismantled the Moolchand-Ambedkar Nagar BRT corridor, a Rs180-crore traffic project built in 2008, saying it was built without proper planning, but had accepted the concept of such corridors was not bad.

"The dismantling of the corridor has not helped in easing out the traffic. Even after the corridor is removed, the stretch has not become jam free. The traffic is poorly managed and the authorities need to be pulled up for it," a senior official said.

The move may trigger administrative confrontation between the AAP government and the L-G's office. Scrapping of the Rs 180-crore traffic project built in 2008 was one of the poll promises of the Aam Aadmi Party. The Kejriwal government had approved Rs 11 crore for the dismantling of the BRT corridor- from Ambedkar Nagar to Moolchand.

And Analysis

The move may trigger a confrontation between AAP government and L-G Anil Baijal
The inquiry might also help in getting the stretch jam-free as the authorities will once again be asked to monitor the stretch
