Ahead of the ASEAN Summit being held later this month, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal inspected areas of Walled City- Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid and Red Fort, on Saturday. The ASEAN summit is scheduled to take place between January 19 and 30 in the Capital.

Baijal conducted an inspection of Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk areas with senior officials of Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Police, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and other civic agencies concerned to take stock of the preparations of these agencies for the upcoming ASEAN summit.

The LG monitored the preparations in accordance with the directions issued by him during the inspection of these areas on December 8.

He has directed that encroachments all around the historic Red Fort be removed and the place be cleaned and beautified.

"He further directed that wherever required, road around the Fort be repaired. He asked these agencies to deal with the issue of parking at identified places on a war footing mode. LG directed these civic agencies to work in tandem with market associations of these areas to install proper sign boards all around," a statement from the LG house stated.

Baijal has given the deadline of January 15 to the civic agencies to complete all these works. He said that all the civic agencies must take special care of the heritage places in their jurisdiction as they will be the centre of attraction for the international guests arriving from different countries for the summit.

"LG said that the work of cleanliness and beautification of public places should be priority for all the civic agencies and it calls for consistent attention," the statement further stated.

Meanwhile, the PWD has also chalked out a plan under which its officials will carry out several works, including filling of potholes, repair of the central verge, footpaths and drains, among others.
