The Delhi Police on Monday safely rescued a seven-year-old child within 48 hours of him being abducted. Two people and a juvenile, who had asked for a ransom of Rs 5 lakh, were also apprehended in the case.

During investigation, police found out that the abduction plan was hatched by Mohammad Kapil, a resident of Shakurpur, who was the former lover of the victim's mother's sister. He was furious after he came to know that his lover had been pressurised by her family members to break up with him, and he wanted to teach the family a lesson. He was arrested along with Hasan, and a juvenile.

The three were nabbed on the basis of call data records and local intelligence. "Kapil roped in his friends by luring them with money," a senior police officer said.

The officer further said that on February 25, around 8 pm, the accused reached the victim's house on a white Scooty. One of them misled the child, who was playing with his friends, and said they had come to take him to his maternal uncle's home for a party.

The child believed them and sat on the Scooty. They then took him to a room in Tri Nagar. Next day around 7 am, one of the accused called the child's mother from a PCO booth at New Delhi Railway Station, and demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh. The caller also told her that he would call her around 3 pm to let her know the place and mode of payment. The family members then informed the police about the kidnapping.

"Police started the investigation in the neighbourhood areas based on the description of the accused and victim," the added.
