A Kenyan woman was killed by a speeding truck in southwest Delhi's Bindapur area late night on Saturday. Police said they have identified the vehicle; however, no arrest could be made till late Sunday.

According to senior police officers, it was around 11:45 pm on Saturday when the deceased, later identified as Anita Lusa, a Kenyan national, was trying to cross a road near pillar number 706 on the Najafgarh main road that she was hit by a truck. A passerby, identified as Umesh Sharma, who runs a restaurant in Vikaspuri, informed the police that he found the woman lying on the road.

"When a police team rushed the victim to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, she was declared brought dead on arrival. A crime and forensic team were also rushed to the spot. Initial probe has revealed that Lusa was knocked down by a speeding truck with registration number – HR55 L 8012. Witnesses and locals told the police that the impact of the collision was such that the woman was thrown at least 20 feet away from the spot," said a senior police officer.

Police said that they have identified the truck owner and that the driver is absconding. "Teams have been deployed to nab the accused driver and a case of causing death by negligence and for rash driving has been registered. Possible hideouts of the driver are being raided. CCTV footages from the area are also being checked in order to ascertain the sequence of the incident. Family members of the deceased have been informed," the police said.
