Ousted Delhi minister Kapil Mishra has sent a letter to the Delhi Police, asking them to withdraw his Y+ security in light of the terrorist attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims.

In the letter, Mishra expressed grief over the attack. "Many security officers and jawans have been deployed outside my house as part of the security provided by the Delhi police. After the attack on pilgrims, I wondered what was the need of these officers here, outside my house? Life of each and every citizen is important," Mishra wrote.

"I would request you to withdraw the security provided to me immediately," he further stated.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called the killing of the pilgrims "an act of cowardice" and advised the government to look into the "glaring loopholes" due to which the attack took place, despite an intelligence input. Senior AAP leader and party spokesperson Sanjay Singh said the media reports suggested that there was an intelligence input about a possible attack on the pilgrims.

He further observed that Amarnath devotees have been targeted several times in the past and urged the government to be more careful in providing security to them. "The attack on devotees is an act of terrorism. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the Centre and urge it to deal sternly with those who indulge in acts of terrorism," Singh said.

After the firing by militants on Monday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had "strongly condemned the terror attack", terming it "a cowardly act". — With Agency Inputs
