Delhi Police on Tuesday held 10 people including four juveniles were apprehended for vandalising a car. The incident took place last week when a car driven by CISF officer’s daughter hit one the kanwariya’s and the Ganga Jal spilled.  The police had arrested Yogesh (22) from a slum cluster in Dwarka on Monday, following which the remaining accused were taken in custody. On August 7, around a dozen kanwars had wrecked the car with rods and sticks and toppled it on a busy street in West Delhi’s Moti Nagar area, as policemen and passers-by looked on. A video of the vandalism that took place around 5.30 pm went viral on social media. The car had brushed past one of the kanwariyas after which the entire group created a ruckus.

A heated argument ensued between the two sides and one of the kanwariya’s was allegedly slapped by the male occupant of the car. The kanwariya’s then vandalised the vehicle with baseball bats. A video of the incident, captured by a CCTV camera installed at a shop, showed the Kanwariyas breaking the car’s windshields, windows and headlights with baseball bats even as a policeman tried hard to stop them.

Investigating officials scanned 1000’s of kanwar pilgrims whose names were mentioned in the registers of around a dozen kanwar camps on the road from Moti Nagar to Najafgarh. The police officials also personally met the organisers and workers who were a part of these camps. The police officials were successful in identifying two of the accused men Yogesh and Vishal alias Dabla. Yogesh was arrested on Monday. On his instance Vishal was arrested as well from Kair village area in Delhi. Sachin was interrogated at length and he disclosed that he was provoked by one of his friend Aman, a resident of Najafgarh, Delhi to vandalize the car on pretext of spilling of holy water due to recklessly driving by the car driver. Aman was the main accused in the case.

The woman and her male companion had fled the scene fearing for their lives and refused to give any complaint in writing.
