Two days after a section of students and teachers of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) moved the Delhi High Court (HC) over the replacement of the University's sexual harassment complaint committee GSCASH with an Internal Complaint Committee, the University on Saturday announced the election schedule to elect the students representatives for the latter.

According to a notice issued by JNU, polling for the three student representatives — two of them have to be women, will be held on September 29, 2017.

"Polling for the three student representatives will be held between 9 am to 5 pm on September 29 following which the counting will begin immediately," the notice read.

The JNU administration has been at loggerheads with the students and teachers fraternity over the dissolution of the 18-year-old body GSCASH. The university had replaced the sexual harassment complaint body GSCASH with an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), citing UGC regulations 2015, on September 18.

The students and teachers both equally resisted the move citing the fact that the functioning of ICC will have administrative influence as its members are nominated by it. However, in GSCASH, all the members were elected.

Meanwhile, earlier on Saturday, the newly elected student Union at the JNU held a General Body Meeting to resist the dismantling of GSCASH. "The student community resolved to reject the sham elections called by the administration for electing student representatives to the puppet ICC and resolved to fight to defend GSCASH," said JNUSU president Geeta Kumari.
