Jamia Vice Chancellor urges students to join the Army

The Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia Talat Ahmad on Thursday urged the students to join the Indian Army and serve the nation.

Addressing a group of 28 Varsity students, who have recently gone on a 10-day tour across the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Ahmad said, ""I hope you have been able to observe the life in the Army closely and would now want to join it to serve the nation."

The tour that was organised and hosted by the Indian Army in collaboration with Jamia Millia Islamia comprised 14 boys and girls each from different under-graduate courses of the university. They visited the Valley from April 4 and returned on April 14

"The idea behind it was to provide a platform to students to witness the work of the Indian Army and its role in peace and development in J&K," the VC said, adding some students who were part of the tour now contemplating on joining the Indian forces.

During their visit, the students also got an opportunity to meet the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti at her residence. "The tour has provided students with unusual exposure which will last them in good stead for the rest of their lives," said Tasneem Meenai, Dean of Students Welfare, who had accompanied the group.
