Angry homebuyers who had invested in projects of two different builders — Amrapali and IRIDIA — on Sunday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the inordinate delay in handing over the possession of flats. The protesters further demanded that the nexus between builders and the Noida Authority should also be investigated as no Authority official has, till now, come to the aid of the flat buyers.

Homebuyers of different Amrapali projects in Greater Noida West along with members of the Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA) gathered at the Noida Extension roundabout and took out a rally. Angry buyers alleged that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made only verbal promises and did nothing concrete to ease their suffering.

"We have always been promised many things but nothing happens. We want the CBI to look in to this matter now and take some action against the Authority and the builder," NEFOWA General Secretary Shweta Bharti said.

Investors of the IRIDIA project also staged a protest and raised slogans against the builder, the Noida Authority and the State Bank of India (SBI). The IRIDIA project in Noida Sector 86, launched in 2012, has been at a standstill since September, 2014, following a notice from the Noida Authority.

After three years of lodging complaints with the UP government and its various offices, the homebuyers finally decided to stage the protest march, which started from the Rajnigandha Chowk and went till the District Magistrate's (DM) residence in Sector 27. There, the protesters submitted a memorandum for Adityanath through the DM of Gautam Buddh Nagar.

"We have heard their problems and will take the matter up with the Noida Authority," DM BN Singh said.

Meanwhile, Bharti told DNA that the IRIDIA project builders promised delivery of 720 flats to its buyers from the lower-middle class and middle class by 2016. After 14 floors were constructed, the project was termed illegal and brought to a sudden halt. This smashed the dreams of hundreds of buyers.

"It is nothing but a case of fraud and cheating by the Kaveri Sahkari Awas Samiti (Pankaj and Vijay Lunia) and Horizon Concept (Naresh Sabarwal, Jivesh Sabarwal, Suninder Sanda, Ambika Sharma), in collusion with the Noida Authority," she added.

Cases have also been filed with the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) and the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) in this regard but no agency has come forward to resolve the issue, so far.
