Four youths' misplaced sense of humour landed them in police custody on Saturday evening. Busy trying to make a "funny video" for Instagram, the four mistakenly intercepted Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani's vehicle, triggering grave security concerns. They were arrested and later released on bail.

The incident took place at 5.15 pm near the Myanmar Embassy, when Irani was returning home from the airport with her driver and personal security officer. Irani herself called up the PCR after the youths, travelling in a white Santro car with a commercial registration number, came dangerously close to her vehicle and drove along for some time.

Police said the Minister reported that four occupants of a car were misbehaving with her. "After getting the suspected vehicle's details, Delhi Police's PCR vans and Emergency Response Vehicles chased the car and the four youths were detained near the French Embassy. They were all taken to the Chankyapuri police station and questioned," the police said.

During questioning, they told the police that they were playing loud music in the car and did not realise that they had intercepted the Minister's vehicle. All of them were found to be drunk beyond the permissible limit.

"They disclosed that they did not do this on purpose. They said they were recording a funny video for social networking sites. They were all booked and the incident is being probed from all possible angles," a senior police officer said.

Meanwhile, Irani, too, reached the police station in the evening and lodged a complaint, following which the Delhi Police's Special Cell and intelligence agencies were also alerted for a joint interrogation of the four suspects. A case has been registered under InSections 345D (stalking) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
