Two robbers, including the leader of the inter-state Mita gang, were arrested on Wednesday by the Delhi Police Crime Branch from Rohini in North West Delhi. The gang, also known as the Shankar gang in Gurugram, had been involved in dozens of cases of chain snatching and robbery in South Delhi and Gurugram for a few years.

The police identified the arrested men as Amit Rana alias Mita alias Shankar dada and Ajay alias Shyam Dev Bharti alias JP. Both are residents of Sector-29 in Rohini. Two pistols, two magazines, eight live cartridges and a Swift Dzire car were recovered from their possession.

According to the police, Amit and his accomplices would target people working in multinational corporations by offering them a lift as they returned from work. Once inside the car, the victims would be beaten up and robbed of their belongings at gunpoint.

"Wednesday's arrests came after the Crime Branch had received secret information that some of the gang members would be coming on a Swift Dzire car on Wednesday towards the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station at Sector-30, Rohini," said a senior police official.

Acting on the tip-off, a special team laid a trap at the tentative location and successfully nabbed the gang leader Amit and his associate Shyam. On inspection, the police found the arms and ammunition along with two mobile phones and a couple of wooden sticks used for thrashing the victims.

The police registered a case under different sections of the Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code at the Crime Branch Police Station. During interrogation, the duo revealed their style before the police. They also confessed that in some cases where the victims resisted, they even opened fire to scare them.

"With the arrests of Amit and Shyam, eight previous cases have been solved. Except for one named Kala, all other members have been arrested and sent to jail earlier. We are now looking to arrest Kala at the earliest," the official added.
